Certamente terá estranhado o anúncio da viagem "Mergulhar com Focas".
Provavelmente terá pensado que será para mais um destino longínquo....
Mares tropicais....
Mas...a verdade é que descobrimos mais um pequeno paraíso no Mundo, mesmo aqui ao lado!
Uma viagem ao Reino Unido, à primeira reserva do projecto Guardian, numa ilha que pela sua mística e história com piratas e afins, tem uma população de focas cinzentas dominante, que felizmente está já acostumada a receber aqueles "peixes estranhos de um só olho, que soltam bolhas de ar"..os Mergulhadores!
Um dos nossos membros foi fazer uma viagem inicial de reconhecimento até lá; conhecer o funcionamento, etc.
Entretanto preparamos um pacote de viagem que para além da viagem tem incluído alojamento, transfer do aeroporto até ao local, mergulhos, aluguer de material e guias locais para nos levarem aos spots mais apetecíveis, onde poderemos literalmente confratrenizar com estes espectaculares mamíferos marinhos!

Disruptor endócrino? Termo estranho para alguns; em resumo os BPA´s tomam o lugar da hormona estrogénio (já que são extremamente semelhantes na sua configuração) afectando em suma, o crescimento dos animais, sendo ainda também cancerígeno.

Um estudo levado a cabo nos EUA, verificou sinais da existência de BPA´s em 95% de uma população adulta.

Aqui temos "apenas" o caso das redes deríticas i.e. redes de pesca que por acidente, desgaste, etc acabaram por ficar no fundo do Mar.

O propósito para o qual foram construídas mantém-se apesar de quando isso acontece ficarem como que pequenos "panos" (ás vezes bem grandes) no fundo.

Esse propósito é continuarem a capturar animais.

Desta vez de forma indiscriminada e sem propósito que beneficie quer o Ecossitema como o Pescador.

Outrora  tinha sido colocada num ponto qualquer para num espaço de horas fossem  retirar dela o seu ganha-pão de várias famílias e o alimento de muitas outras.

Muitas vezes na pesca as espécies capturadas acidentalmente são devolvidas ás águas; muitas vezes são mantidas a bordo.

A captura acidental, designa-se como "Bycatch"

Familiarize-se com a terminologia

No caso das redes derelíticas, ou "fantasma" (ghost nets), todas as capturas são retidas por tempo indefinido, perdendo assim a sua finalidade e propósito; acabando por ser prejudiciais para todos, inclusivé aqueles que fazem da sua profissão a captura de pescado.

Para além de tudo isso, poderão também ser "armadilhas" para os Mergulhadores, já que, em condições de má visibilidade, distracção, podem facilmente reter um mergulhador por uma simples parte do seu equipamento que tenha passado por perto das suas malhas.

A remoção destas redes fantasma por Mergulhadores, pode e deve ser feita, desde que haja um grau de experiencia mínimo para tal, bem como um planeamento correcto e seguro de forma a que possa participar activamente para a preservação da Natureza. Uma das atracções do mergulho é estar lado a lado com a VIDA aquática, cada vez que mergulha.
Gostaria de fazer um mergulho onde praticamente não encontrasse um ser vivo? Um cardume de peixes?
Provavelmente não..

Com um planeamento apropriado e supervisão, reduzem-se tremendamente as margens de eventuais surpresas desagradáveis que possam ocorrer.

Acredite que no final de um Mergulho destes, sentir-se-à realizado(a), por dessa vez ter dado ao Ambiente e a SI mesmo, uns minutos de muitos mergulhos que irá fazer; apenas Um Mergulho já faz a diferença

Previsão para os Próximos dias: Apesar da acalmia aparente, o Mar de Fundo ainda se faz sentir

Como sabe, os últimos meses têm sido terriveis na sua "invernia" sem tréguas; agora parece estar a acalmar, no entanto para os próximos dias a previsão indica que o vento e vaga mostram-se apetecíveis, mas o período da vaga no entanto reflecte o "Mar de Fundo"; i.e., Mar com alguma força junto ao fundo que resulta em má visibilidade devido ao levantamento de sedimentos.

O período de vaga* ideal para o Norte, é de valores Menores ou iguais a 10, principalmente após tanto "reboliço" nos últimos tempos.

*Periodo da vaga: Periodo entre cristas em segundos. É o periodo das vagas dominantes resultante do seu espectro de energia; podem ser "vagas de vento" geradas localmente (no caso de existirem fortes ventos locais) ou vagas marítimas geradas noutro local.

Polvos e pé Humano

Mais de meia tonelada de polvo morto e um pé calçado com uma bota foram encontrados ontem, a meio da manhã, no areal entre as freguesias de Canidelo e Valadares, em Vila Nova de Gaia. Para já, os resultados preliminares das análises afastaram a hipótese da existência de um foco de poluição capaz de provocar as mortes dos polvos. Resta a possibilidade de um barco de pesca ter sido obrigado a ver-se livre da carga de pescado. A Polícia Judiciária vai investigar o aparecimento do pé encontrado entre os polvos.

Possíveis Causas arrojamento de meia tonelada de Polvo na praia de Valadares: Salinidade

“É a gripe dos polvos”, ironiza Mike Weber, director da Estação Litoral da Aguda (ELA), recusando as hipóteses de poluição ou de alterações da salinidade das águas como possíveis causas do incidente do fim-de-semana passado. Ainda ontem foram encontrados mais de 50 quilos nas praias de Valadares e Canide-Sul a somar aos 500 encontrados no sábado. Os exemplares encontram-se no Parque Biológico de Gaia e as autoridades continuam atentas às zonas costeiras.

Mike Weber, que aponta para uma causa microbiológica, adianta que nos próximos dias é necessário “estar atento às zonas rente à costa mais a sul”. As correntes e a ondulação noroeste, próprias desta época de ano, podem prever que apareçam mais exemplares desta espécie nos próximos dias.

Para já, as amostras seguem para Instituto de Medicina Veterinária em Lisboa e para a Universidade de Vigo. Porém, o pouco desenvolvimento da investigação em microbiologia marinha, associado à raridade deste fenómeno, vem levantar muitas questões. Alguns pescadores têm sugerido que há excesso de água doce no mar mas a baixa salinidade “afectaria espécies mais sensíveis que o polvo”, garante o director da ELA.
