Marine Photobank Special Photo Contest Edition!
In recognition of the United Nations declaring 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity, Project AWARE Foundation and SeaWeb's Marine Photobank are calling for entries for the third "Ocean in Focus" Conservation Photography Contest that feature species in need of protection,the human impacts upon them and their environments, and the importance of conserving biodiversity.
Hermit crab in glass bottlePhotographers of all backgrounds, including conservationists, scientists, divers, travelers and students, and at all skill levels, ranging from amateur to professional, are encouraged to vie for the Grand Prize package that includes US$500 cash as well as many marine conservation-related gifts. Four additional prizes packages will be available: three for honorable mentions and a "Biodiversity Award" package that will be bestowed upon a submission that particularly highlights the need for biodiversity.

Pedro Lage
Iniciou-se na caça-submarina aos 6 anos de idade, incentivado pelo seu pai. Desde então nunca mais abandonou as actividades subaquáticas, tirando o curso de mergulho com escafandro em 1994 no CPAS. No final do curso foi convidado a ingressar na Comissão de Ensino daquele clube, onde iniciou o seu papel de formador em 1995.Nos dois anos seguintes desenvolve a sua formação em cursos da BS-AC e TDI, tendo sido um dos primeiros certificados no mergulho com Nitrox em Portugal. Continuou a leccionar em várias escolas, para onde foi sucessivamente convidado. Abraça com grande entusiasmo o Mergulho Técnico, formando-se em Mergulho Profundo, Técnico de Misturas e Mergulho em Gruta.
Em 1998 obtêm a certificação CMAS Monitor 2 estrelas e Instrutor de Apneia da FPAS, seguido da graduação em Monitor Nacional pela Marinha Portuguesa. Participa em cursos de diversas especializações de mergulho recreativo incluindo administração de oxigénio e primeiros socorros, obtendo a certificação de Instrutor do Conselho Português de Ressuscitação. Em 1999 funda a sua própria escola de mergulho, continuando a formar centenas de mergulhadores recreativos, sem nunca deixar de fazer mergulhos técnicos. É convidado para ser colaborador permanente de uma revista da especialidade, onde escreve inúmeros artigos.
Desde 1995 não pára de evoluir no Mergulho Técnico e obtém várias certificações de instrutor na TDI, passando por outros países em busca de novos conhecimentos e ambientes. Participa igualmente em expedições luso-francesas de espeleologia subaquática na península do Yucatan, no México, conseguindo explorar e topografar algumas cavidades virgens. Inicia a sua formação em circuitos semi-fechados e ajuda a fundar a Associação Portuguesa de Exploradores Subaquáticos (SPEXS).
Nos primeiros anos do séc. XXI, é convidado a pertencer à Comissão Técnica e à Comissão de Mergulho com Misturas da FPAS e participa na elaboração dos manuais CMAS para Portugal. Obtêm a certificação de Instrutor de instrutores da SDI e de Instrutor da PADI. Passa pela formação da DAN e em circuitos fechados da IANTD. É convidado a palestrar em diversos pontos do país sobre Mergulho Técnico.
Dez anos depois de se ter iniciado no Mergulho Técnico, atinge o topo da carreira como instrutor da TDI, nos níveis de Advanced Trimix e Full Cave, tendo já contribuído para a formação de largas dezenas de mergulhadores técnicos em Portugal.
Em 2006 atinge também a graduação de Instrutor de Instrutores da TDI, nos níveis de Nitrox, Advanced Nitrox e Decompression Procedures. Conta agora com mais de 1100 mergulhos, incluindo centenas de mergulhos profundos (>40m), mergulhos em gruta e mergulhos com circuitos semi-fechados e fechados.
Actualmente está fortemente empenhado nos circuitos fechados, sendo já instructor de vários modelos.
